As most homeowners realize land use decisions made by elected officials can have far reaching effects on real estate taxes and property values. In Colorado and specifically in Douglas County decisions made by the three elected County Commissioners definitely impact property values and real estate taxes. In addition, a recently passed state law gives the commissioners more control over the business personal property tax rates in the county. We are currently in the middle of a contested race for the District 2 County Commissioner. The Realtor organization to which I belong - Douglas Elbert Realtor Association, DERA - is hosting a candidate forum for all candidates for that office on June 6th from 6 - 8 PM. The forum will be held in the DERA offices at 840 Kinner Street in Castle Rock. DERA has asked me to moderate that forum so I look forward to a very informative and fair discussion. Hope to see you all there.
